Kindergarten Graduation

This is Kora with her Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Musgrove.

Jake never had a Kindergarten graduation, so today was my very first one! An hour before the graduation we met in Kora's class for their individual awards.

Let me preface my story by saying that I must be the WORST mother in history.

Really. Like I prove this to myself over and over each day with something new. Take for example the fact that Miah was wearing some shoes that were 1 1/2 sizes too small for him because he couldn't find his flip flops. I didn't notice until one day when he needed help getting them on. I realized the problem was because his toes were curled up in the toe of the shoe. Nice one Jess...way to stay on top of your kids' needs.

So today the teacher starts giving the awards. She'd describe the kid and then tell what the award was for. Over and over I kept thinking, "oh this has GOT to be Kora." But no. I had my camera ready the entire time but still...nothing. I realized about 2/3's of the way through the awards that the teacher was going from dumbest to smartest kid. Is that even allowed? I started pulling for Kora to be the last and every time she called a name that wasn't Kora, I was even more impressed with my little momma. Finally she had gone through the entire class and only Kora was left.

Holy smokes.

Kora.

Top of the class.

She got the award for being the most advanced reader and speller (high 3rd grade level) out of the entire class, for always reading with the best expression and using voices (I wonder where she got that from), and for always thinking outside of the box.

MY Koko :)

I was so proud. I think I'm still glowing with all the pride I have busting from my seams. I love that girl. I mean, I knew she was smart. But THAT smart? Holy mother of surprise woman. Amber attributes my kids' smarts to our lack of TV. I attribute it to MY genes. Which is of course why I didn't go to college...I was too smart for it!

Sorry it's so noisy. All the kids (and parents) were on their last leg being she was the last one to get her stuff.

Okay, so I about teared up watching this. I am so proud of Kora!!!!

Okay, now down to business...who was that annoying kid in the background that was whinning the WHOLE time? I could hardly hear what the teacher was saying. And I loved your, "OH MY GOSH" voice in the beginning! And who is that red headed kid trying to take Kora's thunder?

Oh, and Kora looked beautiful of course!!!!!

I've never met Kora, but I'd bet my life she's smarter than me.

I think it is about time you did an award show of your readers, dumbest to smartest, of course.

What on earth is WRONG with me?!?! I've not even had the pleasure of meeting Miss Kora yet and tears just popped right up in my eyes when she went up there and her teacher started telling all about her. I'm going to be a mess at Emma's Kindergarten graduation for sure! Holy Crap.

I'm so proud of her and you! You are NOT bad mom. You are a wonderful mom. I just love ya!

Way to go Kora!!! She's a superstar! Thankfully being around all those uneducated people hasn't phased her.

1st off Congrats to Kora on her award!
2nd how crazy is it that at the beginning of the year my son was too in Mrs. Musgroves class, but when the added the K-1 class, my son was bumped to there. So we probably have met on one day or another and never known it...Crazy!! ;)
The graduation was absolutely adorable today!!!
If you're still in town come, Aug. maybe we'll have the chance to run into each other again!

I knew that Kora was about the only girl baby I could stand for a reason. We're both geniuses! :)

Of course, her blowing it away should be NO surprise, she has proven time and again that she is in no way willing to be mediocre (and has the wounds to prove it :).

Get Miah new shoes and post pics to prove it! :)

I liked that sweet little side squeeze she got from the boy at the beginning... that she ignored.

Honestly, I wish we would go back to when the fastest got a blue ribbon and some people just got the popsicle for trying. Winners and those who work their GUTS out deserve a little shout out. It might encourage the other kids and moms and help them realize they too could achieve top o' the class if they were as cute and smarty pants as the beauty queen that brilliant Lowe mom and dad raised.

Good work! xoxo

I love these little graduations. My little "special" guy got to participate in his pre-school graduation, even though he still has two years left. I was still bursting with mama pride.

Love your blog, I found you on MMB.
