The sunflower was NOT happy about that. She stormed into the bathroom and started smashing her hair flat around her head as she cried, "I do NOT like my hair all crazy like this. I do NOT like puffy hair." Kora looked confused and said to her, "But ALL Texas girls wear puffy hair." The Sunflower turned to Kora with an angry face and said, "but I was born in Cali-FOR-nia." Hmmm. This was something Kora just didn't understand. She's been taught since she was little that having puffy, full bodied hair from Texas was the THING to have. Why was the Sunflower not embracing this luxury? The Sunflower decided that I needed to braid her hair FLAT against her head as not to show any "craziness" as she called it.
I was really scared at the job that lied ahead of me. I wasn't experienced in creating flat tight hair. I remembered when my mom would french braid my hair when I was in Kindergarten and she made it SO flat and tight that I looked like an Asian girl when she was done. I forgave her for doing that...she was, after all, not a TRUE Texan (and Indiana-ian). Could I now do a flat tight french braid for the Sunflower? She was quite picky as to how it should look. I did my best and told her that I hoped she would be patient with me since I wasn't as good as her mom because I didn't have girls with long hair to practice on. As I nervously braided the yellow locks, the Sunflower said to me, "My mom must be a Texas girl because her hair is REALLY poofy." When I finished I crossed my fingers as she stormed over to the mirror to see the finished product. She squinted her eyes together and turned her nose up..."I like it." And that was all she said as she added a purple flower to the very top. PHEW! Here's a picture of it after we returned home. It didn't have that many fly-aways to begin with (or "crazies" as she calls them).
(ps...the Sunflower insisted on making this face)

Jessica, are you trying to tell us something with that practicing comment?
How fun to have a day of snow. It looks like "real" snow too and not the crazy Texas snow that turns to slush/ice/etc. on impact with the ground.
Your hair story made me laugh. I somehow see that playing out in my house in the future.
I know, people around here don't know how to act when it "snow's" or the "anticipation" of it. You should live in MI in the winter, its like a blizzard everyday...and guess what...school was never canceled!
They could've went a 1/2day...I'm sure school will be cancel tomorrow too...you know, just incase it freezes over night or something? Gosh, when am I going to be able to have a regular day with the hubby at work and Isabel in school?
You did a great job with "sunflower's" hair!!!! Good mommy!!!
Well at least your snow day finally had some snow!
ok that is not fair..the main reason I was so excited to see Summer was to see Emerald. :( I thought she was going to come but I guess not. Soooooo lucky you! I love that girl and I love how you call her "sunflower"
Baby I think your flat to the head braid was good. Not too many crazies. I LOVE your "yellow house in the circle" It looks fun with snow all over it. It looks so homey. No wonder you like it.
Love you Mutha
Ohhhh, your house looks SO good in snow!!! And nice job on the braiding!! Mine are usually lumpy, or with comb marks in them. Bravo.
Oh gosh...that's so going to be my daughter being particular about her hair! Love your house...the snow makes it look all perfect!
I'm jealous about the snow! I need to learn how to french braid.

I love the hair story and especially Kora comment that "all Texas girls love puffy hair". Kevin is going to get a kick out of that as he already believes this!

Lindsay....I second that motion!
Jess...your house is adorable and given my hateful relationship with snow, this takes alot for me to say...your house looks pretty covered in snow!
