The 12 days of moving

SO. Tomorrow the movers come and take all our stuff away and it could possibly be 12 days before we see all that stuff again. I've spent this last week slowly organizing and separating things that are ours that we won't need for 12 days, as well as packing things we WILL need for 12 days. To make the labor less stressful, my Mom, Kora and Miah surprised me by making my favorite oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for me. I'll miss these yummy thigh expanders. I have the recipe for these but every time I've ever TRIED to make them, they don't ever taste or look like my Mom's :(
I was told by the movers not to pack anything because if it's packed in a box or plastic container they will open it up and RE-pack it to ensure it's safe during the transit. That was a little hard for me since we've been living out of these plastic containers for the last year, but I did my best at just making "piles" for them to pack and load up.
This is the upstairs pile. Those plastic bins are full of clothes I won't be able to wear for quite some time (at least at this rate).

This is the downstairs pile made up of toys from the toy room and stuff from the kitchen. Mind you, this massive pile of toys isn't even 1/16 of the amount of toys we have total. Most of the toys are in storage and have been for a year so when we get to VA and we unpack all the stuff we haven't seen the past year it's gonna be like Christmas for the kids, woo hoo!!

Here's my pile of Isaak...oh wait, how did this get here?

This is the bathroom pile. Don't worry, I made sure the KY didn't make front row in the picture this time. hehe.

Janae's bottles...huh??

The garage pile. Yes, that's a casket in the background and no it's not ours. Although, there HAVE been several occasions when I've contemplated putting my children in it and burring deep in the earth. No but for real, my mom is a mortician/funeral director and she has this freakishly weird obsession with caskets. You know how most people collect snow globes, elephants, clocks, lladro dolls? Yeah...caskets are her thing.

With all those piles built up, it leaves our bedroom looking pretty bare compared to it's normally messy self.

The beds are also very empty and sad looking. Where are the kids at 11:45 pm you ask?

They're right here on the floor looking quite dead. Doesn't Miah look extra flat? He's like a pancake. And Kora looks quite busty with those tan lines. Yikes. When is she too old to be running around without a shirt on?
Here are the suitcases we'll be living out of for the next 12 days (possibly).

And the stuff I need to be sure not to forget for the trip.
Don't ask me why Miah's car seat is up there, long story. See my wrap Tara and Staci and my box of important documents that I need to keep near me at all times?

For the finishing touch, I had to put everything back where it was when we moved in. A random wedding picture of my parent's favorite daughter which was temporarily hidden is now gracing the table of the bedroom once again. Yes Lindsay, you are beautiful. It's so nice to see you back in the guest room for guests to stare at without wedding pictures of Me or Amy.

So you know what this means right? I will be without my trusty computer for quite some time and I really hope my blog stalkers don't write me off. Please don't forget about me!! I'll probably be able to do a few non picture posts just to update but it won't be every day like usual.

Oh my gosh, that was WAYYYY too easy. Phantom of the Opera. Even my kids could get it.

"but if you can still remember, stop and think - ah ah ah ah ah ah hah!, ah ah ah ah ah ah hah! a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a,a, aaaaaaa AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHF ME!"

I'm jealous you have movers to pack for you. Very nice. We'll miss you, but you might find you enjoy the vacation from the computer.

:)

OK, your a Phantom nut. That's my answer. ;)

Did I already tell you that you will need 6 yds of fabric wrap if you want to carry Isaak when he is older? The 5 1/2 yd you have will not cut it, even if you are a toothpick....well, maybe it might, but you will only get a little knot with stubs vs. the pretty flowy fabric strands. I am going to hunt more stores in SLC, so if I find the right fabric, and you need something longer, we can split the wrap. (since you get two from one cut length)

The movers can be rediculous about packing, which is a good thing, but sometimes it buggs. Like having ALL my crafts stuff organized in neat little boxes and labeled, only to unpack and find that they opened EACH box and just DUMPED everything on layers of paper and put that in a packing box. Then all my little empty boxes were jammed into different packing boxes, some of which were crushed due to being empty, and had to be replaced. Yeah, that part kind of sucks. And usually half of my plastic bins are cracked. You just get over the emotional attachment, and know before hand, that SOMETHING will be damaged or broken during EVERY move, no exceptions. And they make the claims process a pain in the butt, BUT it really is nice and makes you feel good to get that check for $500, or $1500, or whatever it ends up being. Well, I have a lot to say about claims, didn't mean to make a huge comment about it. I will save it for when you post about unpacking, you will for sure have a lot to say about it. I LOVE having movers, even with damages, it is SO nice not to worry about packing! You did a fantastic job with separating stuff. You are a pro military spouse already!!! You go girl!!!

The kids are adorable!!!!

Oh crap, that's what I get for typing too much. I started my comment before anyone else had commented. But I took so long typing, Sandra beat me to it! Lindsay, you can just laugh at me and roll your eye, miss favorite daughter.

Once again I do something besides look at your blog (okay it was reading New Moon for the 5th time) and BAM! I miss out, but I think I should get more points than Sandra cause I've seen the show here and the one on Broadway and my sister saw it in London and there was a girl Heidi Deutsch in high school who sang that song for the solo concert and my brother was in love with her. So I might lose AGAIN but I get more points.

I read the book Phantom in the eight grade and it is freakin long! Does that get me any points?

our movers from boston to here said the same thing. but they didn't check anythign i packed, and the "fragile" stuff i let them pack, they didn't do half as good of a job.
Have you decided which to traquilize for the drive: Roscoe or Isaak?

Wow, I'm like 6 comments too late...

but I guess I can't win ALL the prizes! :)

Oatmeal chocolate chips are my favorite, too, and only when my grandma makes them. I can't make them at all.

That looks like a crazy mess! I don't envy the moving part...

Wait... I have known Lindsay for like 9 years... and you're telling me her mom is a mortician?! How could I not know this? I don't believe you. I would remember if that were her mom's job. You made that up. She works at a bank or something...

good luck on the big move!! i'm so glad you could get movers, such the way to go. and they really do take everything out and repack it. thats what they did when we moved down here from utah. and the boxes i told them i didn't want them to touch i had to sign a waiver on. it felt weird to have people packing my things but it was so nice. anyway, i hope the drive goes ok and i'll be waiting to hear about the happy reunion!

I like how "The Art of War" is the book next to Lindsay's wedding picture.

And you used the visual aid out of context. Very disappointing, but understandable because you are moving across the country.

You are very trusting with those packers. Hopefully they drive your stuff to Virginia and not to Mexico. No worries!

actually... i'm not the favorite daughter... sigh... oh who am i kidding, we all know i am. It's easy to love someone so far away who when they aren't there to do things that irritate you on a daily basis. Plus that WAS my room before you took over, remember? because everyone already lived in texas except us. That garage pile makes me a little nauseous... thinking about you outside for that long, organizing... ew... so hot.

oh also... you're right about those cookies... every time i make them they NEVER turn out like mother's... i don't know how but she's the only one who can make them the way they SHOULD taste.

Ok, sorry Valinda, but I get more points because I've seen it here and Broadway, my friend Steve is a stuntman in the Las Vegas production, my friend Isiah works on costumes here in LV, I was the costume designer for a show directed by the assistant director of the LV production and my husband just did a concert with Brent Barrett who has played the phantom here and on Broadway. Oh, and I sang "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" as my audition for my very first production in high school and I got the lead.

Anyway, I'll send you my address when I get home after rehearsal tonight!

Yeah, I want to know what your mom plans to do with that coffin too. Is it hers? Yours? Your neighbor down the street? Hmm...

So, I am pretty sure that this is too late, but... I was gonna warn you that movers are maniacs! They will pack everything. They will pack trash cans with the trash still in it. The will pack a dirty diaper if it is under your bed. They will pack everything! And they will wrap it nicely in packing paper so you will feel like it is Christmas when you unroll that sippy cup full of milk that was in the couch cushions. They are crazy!
