First day alone

My first day by myself with no one to help out was made possible by Deanna and Laura. Let me, if I may, take you on a flashback to yesterday evening. We were invited to visit Pops and Kim for dinner and I was excited to spend some time with them since I hadn't in a while. Unfortunately, the kids were HORRIBLY embarrassing. Miah not so bad, I won't include him in this rant. He was his normal 3 year old self being a little whiny and naughty but also sweet. Kora and Jake on the other hand were wild animals. As much as I tried to enjoy my adult conversation with Kim and Keith, I was constantly interrupted by an 8 year old who thought he was included in the adult conversation (a HUGE pet peeve of mine) and a 5 year old who continued to stick her dirty feet in my face and talk OVER whoever was talking because she wasn't getting the attention she needed. UGHH! I wanted to stay longer and would have if the kids weren't so terrible, but I was so annoyed with them and with telling them to behave and having them completely ignore me that I had to cut the visit short. I cried all the way home to Austin on the phone who of course griped the two older grubs out. They sat silently in the car the entire way home, not saying a single word. I'm sure whatever Austin said to them scared the living day lights outta them.
When we got home, Jake wrote me a letter saying "We are very sorry" and he wrote the word 'very' 100 times.

This morning Jake and Miah came upstairs bringing me a frying pan with breakfast on it. I think this was their idea of making things better and being better helpers for mom. The breakfast was quite interesting.

With my mom and dad both at work today, that leaves me and me only to manage all 4 kids by myself for the first time all day long. I started the day by trying to organize my clothes and all the baby clothes Amy got me, but things got pretty hairy with Isaak hungry and all the kids bored out of their minds. Suddenly, I remembered my trusty gift basket my good pals Deanna and Laura made for me. I ran to the closet and busted it out and of course all the kids gathered with wide eyes asking me who it was for.

I quickly passed out balloon wands, water guns, sidewalk chalk, nutty bars and a handful of airheads and told the kids to beat it for a couple of hours. The only rules? I don't wanna see trash on the floor and any mess you make, needs to be cleaned up. PERFECT! They grabbed it all and ran off and I've had some sweet quiet time to myself. Well, I have to share it with Isaak but I'll share anything with him, he's so precious! Thanks D and Laura, y'all are lifesavers!!

I love skinny, long and tiny baby toes, don't you?

Kora LOVES to hold Isaak without his blanket on him. I think it's because he looks more like one of her baby dolls. He barely looks real in this picture, huh?

Jake can't get enough of this little man. He is constantly in his face kissing him always asking if he can hold him.

I love this picture because it reminds me of a picture of Jake when he was a baby. They were both in the same pose and so kissably cute!

I love your breakfast, how sweet! Do you ever feel like Miss Hannigan in Annie? "Kill! Kill! KILL!!!!" Do you need another plant yet? :)

Yea! I'm glad the stuff came in handy...the worst part of having a baby when you have older kids is keeping the older kids entertained while you have to be a homebody with the baby. Bring em over when you need a break.

I love how real your stories are. And the 'breakfast' is super cute and creative. That is so funny! I'm boring, I don't have a lot to talk about...I'm very glad you have such an entertaining life b/c I think I'd be even more bored if I didn't get to read your blog every day.

Oooh - for me, the hardest part when Lola was tiny was the other 3 kids! She was an angel, but she still required all the attention every new born baby needs, which can make the other kids feel left out. One of Ryder's first phrases was "baby down".

I had my first day alone with all four when Lola was 2 days old. Fortunately, I just sent the kids downstairs to play, but it was still really stressful. But I guess that's what I get for having my baby when everyone I knew was out of town. And my normally well behaved children acted up as well for a while after she arrived. I think it's just all the changes that accompany a new baby.

But no worries! If you're lucky like I am, Isaak will be tormenting his older siblings in no time! "But Sandra, what do you mean?" Oh, simply that my crazy little 11 month old has taken to climbing, picking and otherwise annoying her older brother any time he falls asleep. She loves to steal his bottle (yes, another unfortunate side effect of have babies so close together) and literally climb all over him. FUN stuff! Of course, he retaliates by laying on top of her to give her a "hug!" I'm glad you seem to be appreciating the tiny baby.

I'm so sorry you were all by yourself.... i can't wait to come down and help you!! i miss all my nieces and nephews!!! My baby wants to go play with cousins! those toes make me laugh... they look like spaghetti fingers. it looks like he is growing in only his toes. HA. Also, i like that breakfast jake and miah brought you... it reminds me of "making" food when we were little.
