Can she do it?

UGH, why do I always find myself in this position?!?! Here we are approaching yet another birthday party and like usual, needing another birthday cake. Jake's is easy, I was planning on doing that one myself anyway. He just wanted a chocolate round cake. I told you earlier that he asked for sprinkles on top, well since then he's upgraded to chocolate covered strawberries. No biggie, I can handle that. Miah on the other hand, I was planning on ordering from somewhere but everywhere I've been has had NOTHING to choose from, or hokey designs...blah. SO I'm online looking for ideas to SHOW places so THEY can make it and I start feeling like, why don't I just make it myself?! It'll save mula but it won't save me from the stress of it all. I always get SO stressed out about cakes because I want them to perfect. Anyway, here's the picture I found, it LOOKS easy enough, but it never is. I usually end up calling Lindsay in a frenzied panic about what I should do next because the cake crumbs are attacking me from all directions. I'm sure I'll end up just making it myself...why do I do this to myself...why why why!!

Cakes scare me too. I keep telling myself that I'm gonna take a decorating class but I never bring myself to do it. But I imagine that with this cake, once the skittles are on then you won't be able to see any cake crumbs! I can't wait to see your pics of it.

I used to make fancy, fun cakes, but unless it's a major party, I let the kids decorate each others. (we skip parties, every other year, so I only have to do one each year, since I go WAY overboard for kids parties) You could still do the skateboard, but maybe make the cake base yourself, (I don't know if you already knew this, but freezing it helps keep the crumbs down), cover it with white frosting, and let the kids have at it with icing and make a crazy-looking skateboard that they will LOVE because THEY were the artists. Just an idea. You can always touch it up later, and it will be ok if it looks insane, because kids art usually does. (that goes for skateboards too) Good luck crazy woman!!!!

STRESS! I made P's first 2 b-day cakes--A car and a road for #1 then Dora's Face for #2. I was amazed that they did turn out well but it was too much stress for me! #3 & #4 he just got a yummy cookie cake from the mall--which is what he loves...so it works out for us! Good luck with yours:)

Just use red and yellow jellybeans all over and chocolate donuts for the wheels! Sounds easy enough, huh!

You can do it. Just freeze it like you did last time and then cut out the shape and do the first coat of frosting before it thaws. I'm facing a fairy meadow cake in 2 weeks with a hill and stream, you can do the cute skateboard.

that's a really cute cake... i think the key to making cakes is to give yourself enough time to do them... don't wait til the day of or the day before even... give yourself a lot of time so if you do screw up.. you still have time to redeem yourself. :)
